If I were to fight, I’d rather do it for something I love.
As I scroll through my LinkedIn feed, I have already read an overwhelming number of posts of certain people; people who should have been graduated by now, people who would have been settled in for a job, if not for a pandemic. And, mind you, these are people from prestigious b-schools; they have been posting their detailed CVs over the course of time, explaining to a potential recruiter how they had a job, and then they didn’t; how they were irreplaceable and then, they weren’t. This makes me wonder, if we are even educating ourselves for the right reasons; if we are getting employed so we could learn, or we are learning so we could get employed. I try to understand what I’m in for, and I fail, almost always. The times have really ensured that most times just being employed is not enough, being at the top of your trade is what is really going to make you feel that you are in a safe spot, and most importantly, Irreplaceable. And as much as you crib out it, you mustn’t forget that you are in for a fight, so if you’re going to fight anyway, make sure you are fighting for something you love, somewhere you want to reach badly and something you want to achieve with all your passion. It tries to tell you how badly you should ‘Follow your Dreams’ and be so bloody good at what you love, because there’s barely any other way, you are going to make it. I say this with all my heart, and Marie Kondo is going to second this, if you are struggling in life but you are coming back to a home that sparks nothing but joy, the struggle would not be life altering. We know, so badly, keeping all the privilege aside, we will be left with the work we have done over the years, and the way we have done it, and if your work does not spark joy to you, then maybe you have not loved it enough.
