Aarya is an Indian crime drama web television series co-created by Ram Madhvani and Sandeep Modi based on the Dutch drama series Penoza by Pieter Bart Korthuis for Hotstar’s label Hotstar Specials starring Sushmita Sen in the titular role. Very evidently, the source of adaptation was not just copied onto the Indian context, but actually meticulously worked upon.
The essence of Aarya lies in the conundrum of right or wrong. The character of Aarya is greatly attributed by her understanding that she has been doing wrong all along but at the same time, she strives to do what is the most right thing to do by her family. She is often witnessed It portrays a great range of emotions and a very humane understanding of actions whether they are correct or incorrect. Sushmita Sen’s effortless craft and her vigorous character shapes the entire series into an absorbing story. Aarya is a well-rounded binge-worthy show, and deserves to be watched. It ends with a cliffhanger which leaves the audience wondering whether or not there will be a second season to this great ball of thrill. The plot is a little slow as the time is invested onto every character’s development especially Aarya’s children- Veer, Aru and Aadi- that also encompasses her drive for most of her actions. This show depicts the great fight between evil and the lesser evil, as a mother tries to clench her claws in a man’s world. The story can be a little predictable, however, it is filmed with absolute passion and that drips very well on the screen. The supporting caste is an absolute delight to watch; the characters like Daulat, Aadi, Veer, Aru have a good development of character. A gripping story and beautiful filmmaking, would a second season delight the audience anytime soon? – The question we have all been waiting for!
